Kitbag scores with Toshiba and Medoc computers to kick-off World Cup retailing
June 28, 2010

Kitbag, the on-line sports retailer, has launched a ‘Pop-Up’ store concept in Manchester’s busy Market St with stylish Toshiba EPOS terminals for World Cup Strips, memorabilia and merchandise. Kitbag selected Medoc Computer Systems to manage its EPOS installation and software, due to the company’s specialist experience in the football arena and long-term partnership with TOSHIBA TEC for quality and reliable EPOS terminals.

To coincide with the re-launch of Kitbag.com and the World Cup, Kitbag has opened its first ‘Pop-Up’ retail outlet in the heart of Manchester City Centre for the duration of the World-Cup. Costing in excess of £500K, this high-end store, stocks football shirts and merchandise for all countries taking part in the competition, including exclusive products not available from any other retailer.

This premium store was designed and fitted within an 8 week period to be launched a month before the start of the World Cup. By partnering with other high end brands like Toshiba and Apple, the store has a technology concept to match the values of its successful on-line business.

Chris Bailes, Retail Operations Manager, commented about the choice of supplier, ‘We chose to work with Medoc Computers, as they have a tailored product designed specifically for sports retailing. Unique features, like customisable shirt printing and other bespoke aspects Medoc worked with us to develop such as the ability to integrate into our existing on-line business, make the solution a perfect fit for our retail operation. The addition of stylish TOSHIBA TEC ST-A10 touch-screen terminals, with their small footprint and large touchscreen, complete the high-end design and technology focus of our store.’

With the store open and the World Cup well and truly underway, Kitbag anticipates serving in excess of 50,000 people on the 10 TOSHIBA TEC ST-A10 terminals, installed by Medoc Computers, in the 12 week period of trading.

A key aim of Kitbag, during the store opening period, is to capture the details of all customers, for future marketing activity. The functionality of the Medoc Software, developed specifically for Kitbag, allows store staff to manage this process at the till point and integrate into Kitbag’s existing customer base. Kitbag plan to capture 10,000 new customers in the 12 week period.

With a month’s trading under their belt, Chris Bailes commented on the overall solution, ‘Medoc have worked with Kitbag to provide us with a true multi-channel solution, listening to our ideas and requirements and  tailoring aspects of the software and integration to fit our business needs. They have a ‘can-do’ approach and are always on the end of the phone to deal with any queries or requirements we have. The Toshiba terminals enable us to serve customers in the quickest possible time in busy periods, and we are completely on track to meet our sales targets for the opening period.’
