Four North West retail experts have joined together to create a task force called Retail Performance Improvement (RPI) to help retailers survive the current economic downturn.

The task force, made-up of Ian Parsons, Ray Carroll, Graham Hoyle and Tony Woods, has over 100 years combined retail experience. The group will offer struggling retailers pragmatic solutions to deliver an immediate improvement and return on investment. Advice will be offered on product development, negotiation, buying, retail management, retail operations, consumer marketing and sales promotion.

Ian Parsons, the chairman of RPI, said: In 2009 UK retailers are facing their biggest challenge ever. We can offer retail professionals at all levels the benefit of our combined retail experience. Rather than churning out reports were offering hands-on advice and practical tips. We have real experience in helping companies deliver their products to consumers, in the right retail arena and with a hands-on, inclusive management style.

RPI specialises in turning around the fortunes of failing shopping centres, retail chains and independents. The team can also help retailers negotiate with banks, creditors, suppliers and HM Revenue and Customs. Ian Parsons has worked in retailing, specialist distribution and healthcare for a number of businesses including C & A International, Scholl plc and The Edinburgh Woollen Mill. Ray Carroll is an experienced retail operations and trading director and was one of the key directors who led the original acquisition of Ethel Austin.

Graham Hoyle is a senior retail operator whos worked with such names as WHSmith, Beaverbrooks and House of Fraser. Tony Woods is an experienced buying controller and director who has worked with Debenhams, Edinburgh Woollen Mill and The Sock Shop.
