Socket Mobile, Inc., provider of mobile productivity solutions, has announced Apple iPhone and iPod touch OS 4 compatibility for the Socket Bluetooth Cordless Hand Scanner (CHS) 7X and its antimicrobial equivalent, the CHS 7XRx. Released earlier this year the CHS 7X and 7XRx are extremely lightweight, portable, state-of-the-art 2D/1D barcode scanners that fit a diverse set of application requirements in a range of industries including healthcare, hospitality, retail, automotive and the public sector. The CHS 7X and 7XRx are also compatible with the extremely popular Apple iPad.

The Apple iPhone and iPod touch running the newest Apple operating system OS 4 paired with a Socket CHS 7XRx barcode scanner is a compelling system combination for healthcare and hospitality workers who use these devices as a primary business communication tool and who require a compatible barcode scanner. The Socket 7X and 7XRx barcode scanners read most 2D and 1D barcodes and connect to the Apple devices wirelessly over a Bluetooth connection.

"There are a large number of iPhone and other smartphone applications already in existence that help businesses streamline operations and improve quality of service; the CHS 7X enhances the capabilities of a variety of these applications by allowing quick, accurate data input via barcodes," said Samantha Chu, data collection product manager at Socket Mobile.

"Right now the medical market is benefiting from healthcare applications written for the iPhone and iPod touch, and as doctors, nurses and other healthcare providers start to accept and use these applications with increasing frequency, we can deliver the enterprise-level barcode scanner that will assist them with duties such as accurately collecting and documenting patient data and administering and dispensing medications," said Chu.
