This article is brought to you by Retail Technology Review: Sumerian expands its Sunburst visualisation to provide truly scalable infrastructure oversight.

Sumerian, the U.K. headquartered predictive Capacity Planning analytics provider, has added three new features to its cloud-based Capacity Planning-as-a-Service (CPaaS). The updates are designed to deliver enhanced oversight of large scale, highly distributed enterprise IT estates, providing a scalable single-pane-of-glass view across physical, virtual and cloud hybrid IT infrastructures.

Sumerian's CPaaS is a cloud based subscription service that enables IT departments to instantly visualise their current capacity position, take proactive action based on predicted future capacity events and model planned change to assess its impact. By providing statistically accurate insight, organisations can rightsize capacity, improve performance and reduce costs, ensuring business continuity and an IT infrastructure adaptable to change.

To deliver a capacity planning capability that can easily scale to cope with even the largest and most complex IT estates, and still deliver 'single pane of glass' visibility, Sumerian has introduced its latest scalability enhancements for Capacity Planner, improving the way it represents virtual machines (VMs), workloads and hosts at massive scale.

The latest feature updates also enable IT professionals to tailor their datastore reserve levels, and have constant access to a range of supplementary metrics. By using Sumerian's Capacity Planner, businesses with even the largest distributed IT estates can now gain a holistic view of their infrastructure, demand, and through predictive algorithms, plan to mitigate potential risks to operations weeks in advance. This will allow IT professionals to balance risk with cost and deliver an always-on, scalable, high-performance service.

The three new features announced today are:

New Levels of Scalability

This feature means users can easily view and navigate even the largest server estates from a single Sunburst view. Even if large numbers of virtual machines are present these workloads remain viewable using the new interactive zoom feature.

Metrics Explorer

The new Metrics Explorer functionality provides users with a flexible capability to further sort and analyse underlying time series data, and expands the range of supplementary data available for users to mine. For example, enabling users to identify the top ten VMs servicing the most demand or understand server power consumption.

Enhanced Datastore Reserve Configurability

In the latest upgrade, reserve levels can be independently set for each datastore. This enhancement provides the flexibility to match any organisation's risk profile.

Peter Duffy, CTO Sumerian, said: "The most important thing about any kind of data visualisation is how well it scales. The latest upgrades to the Sunburst visualisation ensures that organisations with the largest and most distributed IT infrastructures are able to achieve a comprehensive and accurate single-pane-of-glass view of their entire IT estates, thus maintaining Sumerian Capacity Planner's utility and avoiding over-simplification of critical data."
