This article is brought to you by Retail Technology Review: Mexican burrito chain Poncho8 boosts sales with Box kiosk technology.

Poncho8, the award-winning chain of quick and healthy Mexican food restaurants, has chosen self-service kiosks designed and built by Box Technologies to improve customer service during the busy lunchtime rush and increase sales by reducing the amount of time customers spend queuing for their orders.

The first of the Cielo KX-100 kiosks has been installed in the chain's busy Canary Wharf store and is already boosting orders at peak periods by enabling customers to quickly and easily select and pay for their own menu through an appealing touch screen interface.

Following the success of this installation, Poncho8 is planning to incorporate more kiosks into future store fit-outs.

"We are already seeing an additional 4% of orders processed thanks to the kiosk we have installed at our busy Canary Wharf store," said Michaela Roberts, MD, Poncho8. "As an ambitious and expanding chain, we are embracing the best technology available to reduce queues and waiting times at peak periods for our hungry customers.

"We are the first burrito chain to custom-build and install a self-order and chip-and-pin payment kiosk. Building on the success we have seen at Canary Wharf, we will undoubtedly install more of these time-saving devices as our business continues to grow."

The highly durable kiosks designed and built by Box in the UK have splash-proof, robust screens – essential in a fast-paced and potentially messy environment – and fully-integrated chip-and-pin readers for payment, along with receipt printers. After selecting, customising and paying for their menu choices, customers use the receipt as proof of purchase when picking up their food from the collection counter, allowing them to skip the queue and reducing the amount of time from order to fulfilment.

Software for the kiosk was created by Poncho8's in-house team, using the latest HTML5 and JavaScript technologies, ensuring that the entire solution is perfectly tailored to the chain's specific proposition, including upsell opportunities.

"We are delighted that such a lively, fresh and innovative restaurant brand as Poncho8 has chosen the Cielo KX-100 to break new ground in quick-service hospitality," says Jason Glynne, Head of Business Solutions at Box Technologies.

"The kiosk helps to engage customers and makes ordering so much quicker and easier. We are also able to promote offers to customers and visualise the menus in an interactive way, which brings the consumer's selections to life. Building on the initial success achieved from the first installation, we look forward to seeing more of our kiosks in Poncho8's expanding portfolio of stores and locations."

"Already well-established in retail and healthcare, our Cielo KX-100 kiosks are well-suited to hospitality, being more compact, stylish, secure and easier to move around than anything produced by our competitors. As a result this means they deliver a quicker return on investment."
