TJ Hughes improves management information with Torex POS

This article is brought to you by Retail Technology Review: TJ Hughes improves management information with Torex POS.

Torex Retail Holdings Ltd (Torex) provider of integrated technology solutions to the extended retail marketplace has implemented Torex Retail POS across TJ Hughes 52 UK department stores.

As a result of the implementation, TJ Hughes will dramatically enhance the delivery of management information to both head office and stores and its POS will achieve compliance with the PCI DSS (Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards) regulations.

The initiative, which was completed three months ahead of schedule, will enhance TJ Hughes decision-making ability by improving the access to information for its buying and merchandising teams, store managers, financial analysts and board executives. Torex Retail POS will streamline the sales operation in stores, capture information on stock levels, sales, discounts and markdowns and detailed financial data, and make this data available in near real-time to staff at head office.

The modular nature of the POS solution, specifically the ability to add new modules without affecting the core software, will provide TJ Hughes with a robust, modern platform for future changes and enhancements. The Torex Retail POS roll out provides TJ Hughes with the opportunity to bring it into compliance with the PCI DSS regulations. Torex has managed the integration process, to ensure that Torex Retail POS works seamlessly with TJ Hughes existing IT infrastructure, taking advantage of the touch screen technology currently in place. The project also included the installation of new servers at head office, and the building of an interface from the existing Torex merchandise management system used by buyers and merchandisers. The deployment included a Microsoft SQL Server across the estate and 3rd party licenses for IBM Websphere.

Weve been working with Torex for several years, and have been impressed with both their technology and their deep understanding of our business, commented Alan Rawstron, Head of IT, TJ Hughes. Torex Retail POS was therefore the obvious choice to meet our business objectives of achieving PCI DSS compliance and improving management information. The visibility that Torex Retail POS provides across our operations will help us become a better managed business, be far more nimble in identifying and reacting to market changes and ultimately deliver an enhanced experience for our customers.

Retailers need quality, dynamic data so they can predict and react to purchasing trends faster than the competition, said Helen Slaven, VP Retail, Torex. Torex Retail POS will give TJ Hughes the information they need to deliver superior sales and service, and its inherent flexibility means that well be able to deliver any future upgrades, features and services that TJ Hughes needs as the business evolves and new technologies become available.
