Avery Dennison Printer Systems Division, provider of in-store information and complete business critical printing solutions, is launching a new turnkey labelling concept to facilitate markdowns and in-store promotions during hectic sales periods.

The Retail Solution is a hand-held print-and-apply labelling technology, preinstalled with intuitive and practical software, saving the customer hours of time and trouble configuring labels and manually loading pricing information. The customer receives a complete labelling solution they can turn on and use right out of the box.

The Retail Solution is a ready-to-use system specifically designed to meet growing demand from mid-sized retailers, who require rapid deployment and immediate efficiency gains. Pre-loaded with markdown and asset labelling software the Retail Solution is particularly adapted to enable customers to change in-store promotions in real time on the shop floor while simultaneously reducing inventory as well as pricing errors and providing good quality and high visibility labels. The new solution also makes possible to reduce the need of stocking excessive pre-printed labels, as users can print exactly the label required for each concrete need , minimising wastage.

Key features are the simple user interface providing error free access to preconfigured pricing, markdown, promotion and shelf edge labels and the ADSYNC software which ensures pricing files will be uploaded and downloaded automatically between a PC and hand held device with no bespoke software development needed.

Avery Dennisons Product Manager EMEA Mobile Printers and Scanners, Karl Debattista said: Our recent Stocktaking and Price Remarking Study highlighted that optimising markdowns and promotions is rapidly increasing in importance amongst mid-sized retail chains. The survey told us that during sale periods, up to 50% of retailers need to work overtime when the store is closed, meaning extra staffing costs and a reduced profit. 34% of retailers carry out markdowns manually during store opening hours, which takes sales assistant focus away from the customers, which affects sales and it is prone to error.

By listening and working closely with our customers we know they want to simplify and improve the efficiency of markdown processes, while reducing costs and boosting the time sales assistants spend on the highest value work, serving customers. The Retail Solution works straight out of the box, which means quick and easy deployment and brings between 50% - 80% time-saving efficiencies, in one unique solution. Typically a 100 outlet store chain can generate up to $1million in annual efficiency savings.

The Retail Solution is based around the Pathfinder Ultra that combines scanning, data collection and print-and-apply labelling all in one hand-held machine. The terminal is fully loaded with pricing, markdown, promotional, shelf-edge labelling and inventory applications. It has 17 standard multi-language in-store labelling formats developed to produce everything from the simplest layout (one barcode), to the most sophisticated (barcode, price and automatic discount data) and offers currency conversion.

Several key European retailers are already seeing the efficiency benefits of utilising the Pathfinder including MANGO, DATCH, WH Smith and Desigual.

73% of store managers would like their company to invest in a system to carry out markdowns.

80% of store managers think a good markdown and labelling process can increase sales.

84% of consumers have left a store without buying what they wanted because of excessive queuing or waiting time as a result of incorrect labelling or markdown pricing on a particular item.

IT Manager at Desigual in Spain, Toni Sanchez Navajas states The Pathfinder 6039 combines all the tools we need in a single device; handheld labeller, printer, scanner and PDA. Its also very practical and easy to use.

Information Director at DATCH in Italy, Andrea Pachera, says Since we have been using Pathfinder Ultra Platinum 6039 we have increased our efficiency by about 60% and have reduced the time spent on relabelling processes. For our employees, the new solution means that they spend less time on administrative tasks and have more time available for offering a better service to our customers.

The new Retail Solution is now ready to simplify also mid-sized retailers labelling processes, dramatically reduce time and costs and, make easier and more efficient, their day retail operations.
