This article is brought to you by Retail Technology Review: Star Micronics launches new front operating vocal direct thermal printer.

Star Micronics has introduced a front operation, multi-functional printer with a range features including a voice communication tool. With no compromise between functionality and cost, the versatile FVP10 printer offers high speed performance, paper saving features as well as a new method of user and printer interaction. Specifically developed for hospitality given its IXP1 certified splash-proof design, the FVP10 also has particular relevance for the retail and kiosk industries allowing barcodes, receipts, tickets and labels to be printed on media from 0.065 to 0.15mm in thickness with flexible linear paper width adjustment from 58 to 80mm, thus providing complete application functionality.

With a compact footprint, wall/shelf mount option for vertical use and new pull-out drawer style allowing for under the counter positioning and true Drop-In & Print paper loading, this printer is the ideal space-saving solution. Furthermore, if placed on the counter objects up to 7kg can be placed on top of the printer without interfering with its operation. Offering high-quality 203 dpi output at print speeds up to 250mm/second and unique printer speech/voice function for notification of output status (which can be used with or without external speaker), this printer successfully combines the very latest in POS printer technology.

As Simon Martin, Director & General Manager, Star Micronics EMEA, commented: The FVP10 once again demonstrates Stars position at the forefront of innovative printing technology. With the ever-growing need to protect the environment Star is constantly endeavouring to reduce environmental damage through design and innovation.  This is reflected in the FVP10 which, with its linear paper width adjustment, offers huge savings on material costs and minimises environmental damage.
