Finnish handheld manufacturer Nordic ID has launched a new mobile RFID reader series, the Nordic ID Merlin. Nordic ID Merlin is reported to have a fast, best-in-class RFID reader for professional use with high antenna gain and transmission power, excellent directivity and receiver sensitivity. It is designed for ruggedness and reliability, and built to operate all day long on a single charge.

Jorma Lalla, CEO of Nordic ID, commented: "In the Nordic ID Merlin series, we have combined the best features of our top performing mobile computers. Our predeceasing mobile RFID reader achieved the highest ratings in all performance categories for an RFID reader in EECC's tests.  We have topped even that by packing all the best industry features into the Nordic ID Merlin."

Nordic ID has leveraged the Nordic ID Merlin platform to build a comprehensive suite of products, including: Nordic ID Merlin UHF RFID, Nordic ID Merlin Cross Dipole, Nordic ID Merlin HF RFID and Nordic ID Merlin Basic. Each device is flexible by design, allowing customers to select from various identification and communication options to meet their organization's specific needs. The Nordic ID Merlin is built on the Nordic ID PL3000 series by incorporating new technology and high-performing components. According to Nordic ID, this robust and outdoors usable mobile computer is future-proof and backwards-compatible. Its software is compatible with the Nordic ID Morphic, in addition to the Nordic ID RF-series, allowing for mixed use of the devices.

The hardware is easily controlled: there is no need to study different ways to implement functionality in different languages. Nordic ID MHL abstraction layer simplifies the communication between hardware and drivers. The Windows CE 6.0 operating system is customizable and does not require you to use a standard interface.
