Datamax-O'Neil introduces the RL4 rugged 4-inch portable label printer

Datamax-O'Neil, a global provider of label and receipt printing solutions, has announced an entirely new and "ground breaking" 4-inch label printer, the RL4, which is designed for rugged environments typically found in manufacturing, transportation and logistics applications. Combining flexibility and speed with easy integration, the RL4 has proven its superior rugged reliability by delivering labels even after a series of grueling tests.

"Datamax-O'Neil conducted extensive market research and concluded that customers needed a portable label printer that could withstand the rugged environments typically found in manufacturing and warehouse operations," said Christian Bischoff, Regional General Manager EMEA at Datamax- O'Neil. "Up until now, they have had to rely on stationary label printers or inferior portable printers which aren't designed to withstand harsh and often punishing conditions. We've built the RL4 for rugged portability, and designed it so that it can be worn on belts or installed on forklifts or carts to bring label printing to its needed destinations."

The RL4 has achieved the MIL-STD 810 drop standard, which requires 26 consecutive drops at 6 feet to concrete. In addition to its rugged design, it is also easy to use and ready for integration into all the common bar code emulation languages and communication protocols.

The RL4 has a patent-pending design that provides the ability to load and unload media using only one hand. The printer's optimised LCD was designed with input from usability experts. Integration is provided by ZPL, CPCL, DPL and IPL emulation. It is easily compatible with Warehouse Management System (WMS) enterprise environments, including SAP, Oracle and AS/400 protocols, as well as many common label design software packages. The RL4 is compliant with WPA and WPA2 security and encryption protocols.

"The RL4 gives our partners an entirely new printer category and opens a variety of new opportunities to meet emerging application requirements, especially in manufacturing and warehouse environments," Bischoff concluded. "There isn't a portable label printer on the market that can withstand the conditions that the RL4 has been built to encounter, and still continue to do its job." Orders for the RL4 can be taken immediately with shipments beginning in early January.
