This article is brought to you by Retail Technology Review: Box Technologies announces speakers for Retail Systems Forum 2011.

Box Technologies, the UK provider of customer interface technology solutions, has announced further speaker information for this year's Retail Systems Forum 2011, to be held on 18 May 2011, within the Microsoft Conference Centre in Reading Berkshire.

Roy Ford, Retail IT Controller, SPAR, will give an insight into the growing implementation of contactless payment technology throughout the retail sector. At present contactless cards are providing the driving force behind its introduction. However, it is an area with the potential to grow at an extraordinary rate as smart phones are introduced with the technology required to turn these devices into electronic wallets. In fact, Juniper Research have recently released analysis which suggests that payment and ticketing transactions using NFC (Near Field Communications the protocol over which the data is transmitted to enable the transaction) could hit 70bn by 2016.

With the arrival of NFC and the moment drawing close when the merchants and then the manufacturers take the plunge and commit to installing NFC within their devices, the possibilities for the shopper are fascinating.

The benefits for the customer are multiple. First, it is an easy payment method. It is fast, secure and can enhance the customer shopping experience. There are also massive benefits for the retailer in terms of speeding up transaction times at the point of sale and reducing the amount of cash held within the cash drawer a significant benefit in terms of security.

Following an early career in telecommunications in Fleet Street and the London Stock Exchange Roy Ford took his IT skills to the Retail Sector and is currently the Retail IT Controller for SPAR, with whom he has worked for over 20 years. In 2007 Roy was voted "European Retail IT Professional of the Year".
