This article is brought to you by Retail Technology Review: Fujitsu presents complete portfolio of retail solutions for the first time at EuroCIS.

For the first time, Fujitsu Technology Solutions presents its end-to-end portfolio of hardware and software solutions as well as services for the retail industry at EuroCIS 2013 in Dusseldorf (Hall 09 / F56) from 19 to 21 February. Over 500 retail companies in 52 countries already use Fujitsu solutions in more than 82,000 branches, including brands such as The Body Shop, H & M, McDonald's, Starbucks, Marks & Spencer, and Edeka. This makes Fujitsu Technology Solutions one of the global leaders in IT applications for retailers. In the self-checkout system segment, Fujitsu even occupies rank 2. In addition to powerful hardware for checkout, self-checkout and self-scanning, kiosk solutions, and enterprise servers, Fujitsu's focus at the fair will be on cloud-based IT services for retailers and innovative solutions such as Retail Business Analytics for marketing and sales, loss prevention, cash management, and multi-channel integration.

In the field of POS software, Fujitsu present the next generation of their POS and branch applications with Retail Suite 5.0. The seamless integration of the POS with the SAP Retail back end overcomes disruptions that used to occur in previous workflows and makes it possible to present an integrated perspective on customers and their transactions over all sales channels. Depending on the user's wishes, the multi-channel transaction system can be provided in a client-server architecture, on thin clients, or as software as a service based on the cloud model. In their "Point of Service, Q2 2012" study based on a global benchmark analysis, market researchers Forrester place the Fujitsu POS solution in the "Leaders" segment.

Fujitsu FTS WIN "powered by GlobalSTORE is Fujitsu's latest POS solution for German food retailers. FTS WIN offers comprehensive field-proven functionality for user-friendly and efficient operation of checkouts at high frequency. Fujitsu GlobalSTORE 4.3 + Store Center, Fujitsu's international POS solution, is used by more than 140 companies throughout all continents. Due to its multi-sector design, it is suitable for department stores, home improvement stores, as well as fashion and specialist retail stores.

For the first time ever, SAP HANA for Big Data makes it possible for retailers to analyse large amounts of unstructured data in real time based on SAP-certified Fujitsu systems with the latest technology. Flexframe for SAP® Retail offers a pre-integrated, highly efficient platform that automatically and dynamically manages and allocates resources for SAP applications such as SAP Retail. Flexframe for SAP® Retail can be operated in the user's own data centre as a cloud in the box and offers a solution that can be scaled up for SAP consolidation on industry-standard platforms.

Fujitsu POS hardware shown at EuroCIS includes the compact POS checkout system TP-X II Coupé. It offers all important functionalities and interfaces for a modular checkout in a very small space and with a very low amount of energy consumption. TeamPoS 7000 All-in-One is an interactive and compact checkout system that can easily be integrated even into aesthetically ambitious retail design concepts.

As the world's second largest provider of self-checkout systems, Fujitsu can claim particularly profound experience in this field. This is substantiated by the latest versions of the Genesys and MiniSCO product families. The systems offered by the self-checkout pioneer are now also available in Germany. "U-Reverse", for instance, is a POS/SCO hybrid that makes it possible to turn a full-fledged served checkout workplace into a customer-operated, cash-accepting self-checkout in a very short time. This increases the retailer's flexibility as he can use the U-Reverse to provide more served checkouts during phases of high frequency while putting more emphasis on promoting the self-service option at quieter business hours.

All Fujitsu self-checkout systems can be configured to either operate as non-cash versions or with cash recycling and are controlled by Fujitsu's own U-Scan software platform. U-Scan offers a very ergonomic and intuitive user interface for the retail customer while also making it easy to integrate the self-checkout system with the extant POS application. Employees at the store do not need to learn a new application, as they can access the functionality of their accustomed POS through the admin mode.

Furthermore, Scan Express offers an open, modular solution for personal-scan/self-scan applications. The turnkey solution, consisting of hardware, Fujitsu's own Scan Express software platform, and services, is suitable for use in the areas of personal shopping with self-scan as well as queue busting and self-payment and can be integrated seamlessly with all POS systems.

Fujitsu kiosk systems are specially designed to fit the retailer's individual case of application. The versions "Kiosk Tree" and "E-Concierge" will be shown at EuroCIS. Kiosk Tree, an all-in-one kiosk featuring contemporary design and touch technology, can be extended by using additional peripherals. As all technical components are completely integrated into the display housing, Kiosk Tree enables very slim designs, with wide-screen sizes from 15" to 32" covering a wide range of applications. E-Concierge is an information display column with a 32" vertical screen that can be divided into up to 3 different "zones of communication." This makes it possible to combine digital signage with interactive kiosk functionality.

Applications from Fujitsu's Retail Business Analytics (RBA) Suite shown at EuroCIS include the sales and marketing module and the new RBA Loss Prevention solution. With this new product Fujitsu, one of the pioneers in the market for loss prevention solutions, supports the effective reduction of inventory differences. The efficient algorithms and ready-to-use analysis templates of the new software benefit from Fujitsu's more than 10 years of experience in the analysis of transaction data from POS, purchasing, and warehousing and will usually yield a return on invest within 6 to 12 months.

With their BSI-certified SecDocs solution for legally valid archiving of commercial documents such as receipts, invoices, delivery notes, etc., Fujitsu offer a tested and approved solution for unequivocally proving, even in court, the authenticity of documents and their protection against falsification. The solution is complemented by Fujitsu's leading scanner technology.

As the world's third largest provider of IT services, Fujitsu now offers Retail as a Service to retail companies, a portfolio of extended operating models that goes beyond the Managed Services known so far. A combination of hardware, software, cloud, services, and financing enables operating models which massively reduce investments, turning them into operating costs which can be further broken down into a flat rate per branch. As Fujitsu takes on routine tasks, the retail company gains new freedom for strategic IT projects. At EuroCIS, Fujitsu provides information about the perspectives this model offers to retail companies which prefer to spend money on increasing their turnover rather than on IT. Based on the successful system management suite "Manage Now," Fujitsu now offers extended functionalities which also cover the management of retail-specific systems. Manage Now allows the efficient organisation of asset management, software distribution, but also of new tasks such as energy management.

Partnered solutions developed for retailers by Fujitsu with other leading technology companies will also be presented at EuroCIS. For instance, the long-standing partnership between Software AG/IDS Scheer Consulting and Fujitsu will now be extended to the retail field. At EuroCIS, IDS Scheer Consulting present their integrated, process-oriented solution for multi-channel retailing (MCR). Based on the identification of company-specific fields of activity, they design and implement solutions for long-term MCR success which support the company's strategy and also gear all technical issues such as mobile, big data, CRM, MDM, and cross-company workflows, towards MCR and meeting the customers' requirements in the best possible manner.

With their partner Motorola, Fujitsu present the Smart Badge SB1. It enables retailers to quickly and cost-efficiently equip their employees with a portable mobile device for internal communication, task management, checking prices and inventories, or for giving access to product information. Smart Badge SB-1 offers an E Ink display, a long battery life, and very good readability even in difficult lighting conditions, thus connecting all employees throughout the company in a very economical way.

Fujitsu Components Europe will show the latest developments on thermal print solutions at the EuroCIS 2013. Amongst impressive printers with presenters Fujitsu has recently released the ultimate mobile printing solution for iOS devices along with an easy to use app, available in the app store.
