Global EPoS hardware manufacturer, J2 Retail Systems, has integrated the ultimate level of power protection into its touchscreen terminal product range.

Explains UK Sales Director, Richard Heitmann: "All POS systems are susceptible to data loss and/or hardware damage caused by sudden power failure or fluctuation.  For businesses of any size and in any sector, this can be a major problem.  To protect J2 clients, we've developed a universal UPS system which defends them against black-outs, brown-outs and power surges."

This add-on feature conditions the line, regulating and filtering out power disturbances to ensure a clean power supply. Depending upon the J2 POS system in use and its configuration, J2 UPS can provide up to five hours of standby power.

Continues Heitmann: "We believe our UPS is unique in so far as it not only protects the terminals but also powers all connected peripherals.  This means normal cash transactions can continue and - with some of our POS models - printing can continue too."

The J2 UPS comes with the new Smart J2 UPS Interactive Software package that provides a complete record of power flow information and critical power events. Level of battery charge is one of the elements it monitors and, if the battery becomes low during a power outage, the software automatically triggers an orderly shutdown to protect client data.

Says Richard Heitmann: "The J2 UPS provides another reason for partners and clients to choose J2 technology.  Built-in power protection will enable them to insulate their POS investment from the effects of hardware damage, data loss or corruption, whilst also eliminating costly and unnecessary service calls.  This is yet one more way in which we can ensure J2 technology represents the lowest cost of EPoS ownership in the market."

The lightweight J2 UPS has a tiny footprint (152mm x 80mm x 46mm) and can be mounted inside any POS terminal in the J2 J6xx series. Extremely energy-efficient, the J2 UPS adds almost nothing to the overall power consumption of the POS terminal. In wet environments such as bars, this low voltage DC device will not cause shock hazards.

The J2 UPS is compatible with Windows XP, POSReady 2009, Windows 7, POSReady 7 operating environments. In common with all J2 products, the UPS device is RoHS and WEEE compliant.
