Mobility reloaded

This year's DigiWorld Summit, titled "Mobility reloaded", will open itself up to deep and detailed discussions over what upheavals the future holds for the digital economy as a whole, at a time when mobile technologies and habits are entering into a new stage of development.

As it does every year, IDATE offers participants the chance to debate the changes at work in the telecom, IT, internet and media markets. 'This year, we have chosen a special analytical focus on the extraordinary concentration of issues and challenges that exist around innovation in the mobile industry. This is as true for telcos as it is for their suppliers, for smart device leaders, the top internet platforms and OTT companies, not to mention TV networks and digital content providers. Mobility may be twenty years old, but we ain't seen nothing yet! ' says IDATE CEO, Yves Gassot.

For its 36th edition, the DigiWorld Summit will bring together an international panel of 150 top-flight speakers in Montpellier, from 18th to 20th November 2014, to discuss their views with more than 1,200 participants from over 30 countries.

What real changes will we see in consumer habits and how will they impact business models?
The proliferation of available devices and applications, permanent connection to the grid becoming a commonplace and the spread of embedded sensors are as much fantastic accelerators of innovation as sources of concern for market players wondering about the viability of their existing models.

How much can we expect wireless technologies to contribute to superfast access?
New devices and services are putting a great deal of pressure on both fixed and mobile networks, even if LTE is quickly being deployed around the world.

What are some of the inevitable changes we are going to see in the digital industry?
The unstoppable momentum of mobile is changing the balance of power on the internet, as a plethora of new players from emerging countries enter the marketplace. This momentum is also starting to alter traditional borders in the digital world: between fixed and cellular telecoms, but also for TV industry players delivering to a host of different devices, and for companies that rely heavily on spectrum for their business.
