This article is brought to you by Retail Technology Review: Enabling retail & e-commerce to take control of printing from the internet: MeadCo launches ScriptX 8.0.

MeadCo's browser add-on, ScriptX, enables controlled and consistent printing from Internet Explorer, essential for the accuracy and efficiency needed by the retail and e-commerce industry.

The latest release, ScriptX 8.0, is officially launched today and is designed specifically for use on Microsoft's newest edition, Internet Explorer 11.

The key benefits of the ScriptX product are ensuring consistent formatting and appearance of the printed output of browser-hosted content from any local or networked printer. This is regardless of the printing configurations already set in each individual computer's Internet Explorer (IE) browser.

This means that hang tags, barcodes, shipping labels, point of sale, returns forms and more can be printed correctly first time, every time, identically, from all devices.

The new aspects in the ScriptX 8.0 release include the main installers being dramatically reduced in size and the introduction of a new ability to control the smallest scale factor.

MeadCo has designed ScriptX 8.0 as, from last year, Microsoft only provides technical support and security updates to the most current version of IE. MeadCo foresees that many of its customers may choose to update to IE 11 on all their client PCs and wants its offering to reflect the very latest technology. However, the 'MeadCo Promise' guarantees continued support for ScriptX to all licensees, even when Microsoft introduces newer versions and updates*. This means that MeadCo will continue to provide technical support, bug fixes and security updates to users of ScriptX on earlier versions of IE. Alongside this, MeadCo will continue active development of ScriptX 8.0 for IE11.

Jerry Mead, CEO of MeadCo - the UK creators of ScriptX - explained: "If all end users operate Internet Explorer 11, then ScriptX 8.0 is the best possible option. ScriptX 7.7 should be deployed if end users operate a mix of Internet Explorer 11, alongside previous releases, or if the end users operate Internet Explorer 10 or earlier.

"ScriptX has been available as a browser add-on since 1998 and is currently installed on many millions of Windows machines around the world. Whilst it is great to have proven 100% functionality and security over nearly 20 years, it is also vital that ScriptX continues to be at the very forefront of new technology. This is why we constantly develop and improve the system, creating new releases, while ensuring existing customers will always be supported."

CASE STUDY: UNITED SHADES, ITALY

Based in Italy, but with a strong international accent, United Shades deals mainly in eyewear products, for men, women and children.

United Shades was established in 1997, when e-commerce was still at its inception, with the aim of delivering Italian fashion sunglasses worldwide, directly to people's doors. Today, United Shades is an international re-seller of eyeglasses and sunglasses of the most famous and popular manufacturers.

United Shades uses ScriptX to streamline the creation and printing of documents, reports and labelling, necessary in everyday routine. These include product inventories, through custom labelling; customers' orders, through labelling of shipping items and airway bills; documents needed for inbound and outbound merchandise, from and to suppliers; and invoicing.

Massimiliano Meloni, Owner of Ottica Meloni Dot Com srl, which trades as United Shades, said: "Productivity has been improved considerably with Scriptx. It allows us to make seamless a number of procedures involving creation of printed documents, which have to be integrated with other larger procedures. These include order management, shipping documents creation, batch invoicing, creation of custom labels to track inventory, etc."

Having not found anything similar that works at the same level, United Shades has now been using ScriptX for at least 10 years. Mr Meloni commented: "We found ScriptX simple to install and easy to integrate with the programming language used. We have only needed to contact MeadCo a very few times for small issues but have always received a satisfactory reply within hours."
