This article is brought to you by Retail Technology Review: Giada's compact and noiseless VM23 for digital signage and thin client computing.

Giada has introduced the VM23, a versatile PC optimised for digital signage, desktop virtualisation, and noise sensitive situations.

The VM23 is available with two Intel Apollo Lake based options, depending on your processing needs. There is an Intel© Celeron N3350 based, dual-core version with 2GB Low-power DDR3 embedded, and an Intel© Celeron N3450 based version with 4GB of Low-power DDR3. Both models are supported by 32GB of on-board eMMC, with a full-size mSATA connector available for expanded storage options. The VM23 supports Windows 10 (64-bit) and Linux.

Signage supporting 4K image

Powered by Intel Apollo lake technology, the VM23 offers a maximum 4K / UHD resolution of 4096 x 2160 with flicker-free 60 Hz. With a Display Port 1.2 (Max. 4096 x 2304@60Hz) and an HDMI 1.4b (Max. 3840 x 2160@30Hz) port, both with digital audio support, the media player can support two monitors simultaneously.

Remote controlled digital signage

The VM23 benefits from its JAHC (JEHE Active Hardware Control) for remote control and unattended operation. This enabled both scheduled (RTC) and remote controlled power on/off cycles through (WOL) Wake on LAN or Infrared (IR) remote control. Additionally, the "Auto power on" function enables easy installation by guaranteeing the VM23 to boot as soon as power is connected.

Ideal support for DS solution

Supporting 4k image, VM23 is widely used to support digital storefront or menu board in retail sectors. Thanks to the incredible power efficiency of Intel's Apollo lake architecture, the VM23 can perform in its many roles while remaining fanless. The fanless design makes the media player invaluable in some environments with dust or places that require the least noise possible, such as hospitals, banks and government offices, especially when using the additional VESA mount option to inconspicuously place the VM23 behind a monitor. Additionally, its compact size (116.6mm x 107.4mm x 30mm) and power usage characteristics make it an excellent option for use as a thin client for remote and cloud-based operations.

Other products based on Apollo Lake platform

Besides VM23, customers interested in complete solutions based on the Intel Apollo Lake platform should also take a look at other Giada Apollo Lake products, including AP23 and F105D. With a compact size of 100mm x 72mm, Giada AP23 is a pico-size motherboard based on Intel Apollo Lake platform. The board has two models: AP23-E3930 and AP23-N3350, respectively offering ideal outdoor and indoor support for solutions of industrial, retail and digital signage. F105D, powered by Intel Apollo Lake Celeron N3350/3450 processor, is an ultra-thin fanless Mini PC with three video outputs.
