The business aviation space is changing. With the advancements in technology comes a revolutionary partnership between Vista Global and Collins Aerospace. Part of United Technologies, Collins has stated it will provide “the fasted broadband speeds available within the United States”, and it’s LuxStream offering will be the only service providing incredible bandwidth speeds of up to 25Mbs in the US and 15Mbs globally, via their innovative satellite network. But what does this move mean for the business aviation world?

Connectivity is key

As a business owner, travel is often a key part in your role; travelling offers the opportunity to expand your customer base, build new connections and secure all important business deals. “Even at 45,000 feet, connectivity is key for business owners to continue working efficiently or families to keep in touch and unwind during their flight,” said Thomas Flohr, founder and chairman of Vista Global, and we have to agree.

What is the LuxStream technology?

Offering digital connectivity 24/7 in flight, with the ability to stream ultra HD content and give access to a full suite of connected devices, the LuxSream hardware is like no other. Operated by satellite operator SES, which boasts a network of more than 70 satellites in two different orbits, the service will provide customers with a level of broadband speed they would experience on land. Set to be the biggest aviation technology disrupter of today, it’s one to watch over the coming years.

What part are Collins Aerospace playing?

For their part in this industry leading project, Collins will provide the airborne hardware and its ArincDirect unit will be the service provider for the broadband network operated by SES. Collins will work with customers to help them set up their routers, move data on and off the airplane, as well as manage their software applications that benefit from this new found high-speed connectivity. The company will play an integral role in kitting out the 116 strong fleet of VistaJet and XO jets, both part of the Vista Global group, with the new Cabin Router.

A step forward for the industry

This incredible push forward in the private jet charter space is set to make waves as it offers a much greater connectivity to its clients. Families and business people alike can enjoy incredible download and streaming speeds, speak to colleagues and family and relax knowing they can connect to the web, no matter how high they’re flying.
