New research has revealed the UK areas most likely to buy used, with Walsall coming out on top.

The study by printer cartridge firm CartridgeSave.co.uk analysed the top Google searches related to used items in each UK area to see which areas had the most searches per 100,000 people each month. This included searches for sites like CeX and Ebay and the most popular used electronics at the moment.

It found that Walsall is the UK area most likely to buy used, with the town having 122,603 searches for used goods on average each month per 100,000 people. It’s the only area to have more than a search per person statistically, and the most popular used goods in the area are furniture, mobility scooters and books.

Wrexham takes second as the only Welsh area to feature in the top ten. The city has 90,615 searches for used goods per 100,000 people each month, and the most popular used items in Wrexham are furniture, books, and iPhones.

Taking third on the list is the city of Hereford, which comes in with 76,676 monthly searches for used goods per 100,000 people. According to Google searches, the most popular used goods to buy in the city are books, furniture, and golf clubs.

Mansfield takes fourth place on the list, with 71,116 searches for used goods for every 100,000 people each month. The most popular goods to buy used in the area are furniture, mobility scooters, and clothes.

Rounding out the top five is the city of Norwich, which follows behind closely with 71,082 searches for used goods for every 100,000 people every month. Furniture, books, and, surprisingly, the Nintendo Switch are all the most popular used goods to buy in the city.

Commenting on the findings, Ian Cowley, managing director of CartridgeSave.co.uk, said: “In many cases, buying used can be a very efficient and money-saving way of buying the goods you want, and minimising your impact on the environment.

It’s fascinating to see which places across the country are keenest on getting second hand bargains, with a broad range of places appearing in the top ten, demonstrating that especially during a cost of living crisis, there are plenty of people looking for ways to save money.”
