Digital photoframes are ahead of iPods as the most searched-for tech gift!

High-tech seasonal hits:
The popularity of small high-tech items continues to rise as Christmas approaches, with the frequency of searches for digital photo frames rising by 69% in the last fortnight. 7 and 9 inch photo frames by Sony, Philips, Kodak and Samsung are the most popular. The iPods popularity also surges with net users searching in particular for the iPod Touch 8 GB and 16 GB as well as the hard disk 160 GB iPod. Small compact hi-fi systems are next on the list, and serve as great companion gifts to an iPod.

Top three searched for high-tech gifts are as follows:

1.      Digital photo frames

2.      iPods

3.      Audio systems

Affordable stocking fillers

With 48% of Brits planning to spend less this Christmas[1], the affordable stocking filler category has seen a sharp rise in popularity. Hot water bottles and other warmers are being made more exciting by shoppers looking for fur covers and novelty animal shapes. Digital photo key rings are also appearing on the Christmas Shopping List as an affordable nice to give from 7 to 20. Top gifts searched for in this category are as follows:

1.      Hot water bottles & covers

2.      Digital photo key rings

3.      Jewellery stands

4.      Beanies

5.      Scarves

6.      Purses

Useful, practical gifts

As the credit crunch sets in 78% of Brits have resolved to spend more carefully and 71% told Twenga in a recent survey that they will buy more practical, useful gifts. A food processor, an electric razor and a new desk for a child count among these reasonable popular gifts. Most searched presents from this category are as follows:

1.      Men's parkas

2.      Food processors

3.      Childs desks

4.      Women's cardigans

5.      Men's electric razors

Books, music and DVDs remain the gift of choice

Books, CDs and DVDs continue to sell well online and are traditionally safe Christmas presents. According to a survey recently conducted by Twenga 59% of British online users intend to buy at least one of these goods online as a Christmas present, the most popular being:

3.      Action and adventure DVDs

Christmas Shopping Survey conducted by Novamtrie for Twenga on a representative sample (using quota sampling) of 3004 Internet users in France, Germany, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands and the UK between 17th and 22nd October 2008.
