This article is brought to you by Retail Technology Review: A new EPoS solution is served up to a 'fine' restaurant group.

The latest success story to be announced by Tevalis and its hardware partner, J2 Retail Systems, is their selection by Michelin-starred chef Alan Murchison (of BBC2's 'Great British Chefs' fame) as the preferred EPoS supplier for his 10 in 8 Fine Dining Group.

Their combined EPoS solution, comprising point-of-sale and back-office software, together with the latest PC-based touchscreen tills, is helping this collection of hand-picked establishments to create an environment where traditional standards of service combine with a 21st century interpretation of exceptional food.

The group, established last year, acquired four restaurants each of which had different EPoS software and hardware.  It soon became apparent that continuity was needed, with an EPoS solution producing management reports and back-office data that could be viewed from a central location.  Tevalis Limited, a specialist hospitality technology provider with a client base of high-profile restaurants, secured the contract.

Comments Alan Murchison, CEO & executive chef of 10 in 8: "Many restaurateurs underestimate the benefits of powerful EPOS for both of front- of-house and back-office functions.  Tevalis' solution has been proven to help restaurants deliver the exceptional customer service needed to increase turnover and maximise profitability."

To source the required EPoS hardware, Tevalis approached touchscreen manufacturer J2 Retail Systems, a partner for many years.

Observes Tevalis' James Humble: "For their continued reliability and competitive pricing, we felt J2 was the right manufacturer to work with.  We've selected the J2 630 unit for each of 10 in 8's restaurants."

A phased rollout plan was agreed, of one restaurant every two months.  In March 2011, Tevalis installed the new system in Restaurant Anglique, on the harbourside at Dartmouth.  Says Gregory Rebourg, the restaurant's front-of-house manager: "When deciding which EPoS solution to use for our new addition to the 10 in 8 portfolio, it was extremely important that the company chosen understood what we were trying to achieve with our front-of-house service to complement our Michelin Star-quality food.  During the selection process, Tevalis advised us how our EPoS system could be setup to maximise our front-of-house efforts, allowing us to focus on the quality of our client service. The system itself is completely tailored for our restaurant and, through continued consultation with the Tevalis team, we now have a system that will support us in our mission to achieve Michelin-Star status."

Two months later, it was the turn of La Bcasse, where chef Will Holland has created one of provincial food capital, Ludlow's, most highly regarded restaurants.  Now attention is turning to Paris House, set in the 22-acre deer park of the Woburn Estate, where the new EPoS solution will be implemented this month.

Continues James Humble: "Restaurant staff like the system's flexibility and performance. The software makes communication effortless between front-of-house staff and kitchen staff, allowing those in the restaurant to focus on the customer and deliver Michelin-starred service standards. Also with our own in house development team this allows us to tailor our solution to each restaurants individual requirement. The aesthetically-designed J2 hardware fits well into these fine dining environments and, being fanless, does not generate any unwelcome noise."

The final word goes to J2 Retail Systems' co-founder and managing director, Moray Boyd: "Tevalis has established an enviable niche within the fine dining sector and it's a pleasure to be working with them at 10 in 8.  We look forward to supporting the group as it expands to its target ten sites, and we welcome the opportunity for growth that this gives Tevalis and J2."
