SumUp, the mobile point-of-sale (mPOS) company, is now available in more than 1500 retail stores across Europe. The distribution network, including major brands like Metro Group, Office Outlet and Staples, reflects the company's vision to democratise the access to card payments, especially among small and medium-sized businesses.

260 retail locations of Sally Salon Services, the UK and Ireland professional hair and beauty supplier, have been added to SumUp's extensive retail network and enable more business owners to purchase the SumUp Air Card Reader. Business owners who prefer to purchase products in-store, especially in rural areas, benefit from increased availability.

Duco Trienekens, Head of Retail at SumUp, says: "In the UK alone, there are still more than five million businesses – many of them in the beauty industry – that still don't accept card payments. With a close-meshed distribution network, we offer significantly easier access to our card payment technology than traditional providers." He adds: "With no monthly fees and a three-minute online sign-up process, businesses that run with SumUp get enabled to accept card payments almost immediately after the purchase and won't miss a sale in the future."

According to the UK Cards Association, total card spending in the UK reached £57.2 billion in February 2017, up by £5.1 billion above the level a year ago. Contactless payments and new mobile payment services such as Apple Pay and Android Pay will further push this trend. Business owners, who purchase the SumUp Air Card Reader, will profit from this trend as they are instantly enabled to accept contactless payments as well as payments via Chip & PIN and magnetic stripe.
